About the New Uses AgTech Initiative

The idea for the Belvidere-Boone County New Uses AgTech Initiative was generated by Vandewalle & Associates and refined through several years of research supported by the City of Belvidere, Boone County, and the private sector through Growth Dimensions, the local economic development agency.

As a Smart Growth Initiative, the City of Belvidere and Boone County have formed partnerships with the local business community, area utilities, and area higher education institutions to bring the AgTech Initiative to life.

AgTech is located near one of the region’s most traveled toll ways Northwest of Chicago. Plans are on the drawing board for a multi-tenant facility which will house anchor tenants and will encourage collaborative opportunities. The building will feature lab space, adjacent office space and shared common elements that will benefit users of the building.

By means of SBA and Department of Energy funding, Growth Dimensions has contracted with Northern Illinois University Outreach with the development and operation of the New Uses Entrepreneur Development Center.
